Standing Out in a Saturated Market | Kelly Ewell

In this week’s episode of The Venue Rx Podcast, our host Jonathan Aymin sits down with Kelly Ewell, the owner of 48 Fields Farm, a wedding venue in Northern Virginia. They discuss various aspects of venue ownership, including challenges, attracting couples, and the importance of personal connection and soft skills in the wedding industry. Kelly shares her origin story and how she got into the wedding industry. She talks about the challenges they faced in the beginning, getting financing for their property, and the different buildings on the venue. They also discuss county regulations, offerings and packages at 48 Fields, challenges with vendors, and the future growth of the venue. Kelly emphasizes the importance of understanding the target audience, differentiating from competitors, and providing a personalized experience.

About Our Guest:

The idea of 48 Fields began as a series of late-night stories that typically started close to midnight. Steve would be half asleep, but Kelly was wide awake from having just gotten home from a wedding. There was plenty to say about photographing beautiful brides and heartfelt moments, but conversations always ended up focused on the venue. For years, Steve heard all about the good and the bad of the different venues that Kelly worked with. Until one night in 2013, the story ended with a question.

What if we started our own venue?

Fast forward to today, they are not your typical venue owners. They have actively pursued this venue to support their family. Second, they are hands-on owners, not detached managers who rely on a team that filters through a revolving door. When you call or email, it's then who will reply. When you come to visit, it's them who will greet you. They are the ones with you from the first email all the way leading up to your wedding day.

They never want to lose sight of the fact that marriage and family create the cornerstones of their legacy, and they are so honored to share 48 Fields with others as they begin the journey of starting their own.
